Data breaches are a big problem for enterprises, and they drive security spending. Surprising? Likely not for anyone, but a by-the-numbers view does shed more light on the impact of breaches to spending. From 2010 through 2013, the world saw a number of high-profile breaches 1 (see Figure 1), and as a result, Gartner saw an uptick in security spending (as reported by buyers) for 2014 (see Figure 2 and "IT Key Metrics Data 2016: Key IT Security Measures: Multiyear" ).
