SAN JOSE, CA -- (Marketwired) -- 04/09/15 -- Slow operating computers, failing phone and tablet batteries and time consuming maintenance can be stressful. F-Secure Booster, a freemium app, will help consumers "tune-up" old and new devices to perform faster and last longer.
F-Secure Booster fixes damage and removes the garbage that accumulates in computers and mobile devices during its day-to-day use. Many of these issues are too small to be noticed on their own, but they build up over time and cause computers to become slow and unstable, forcing many consumers to consider upgrading to a newer device.
"Even though computers and phones are often called smart devices, they do fairly little maintenance on their own, which reduces their effective lifespan significantly," said F-Secure's Antero Norkio, director of device security. "Today's devices are built better than ever, and offer more than enough power and features to work for a number of years, but when people notice they don't work as well as they used to, they think it's time for an upgrade. In reality, they just need a little tune-up to get them purring like new."
Gartner projects that manufacturers will ship 2.5 billion computers, mobile phones, tablets, and similar devices in 2015 -- that's a 2.8 percent increase from the year before*. They also predict that the prices of PCs will increase as manufacturers move to protect their profit margins, making upgrades more expensive than they have been in the past.
F-Secure Booster helps people avoid these costly upgrades by finding and fixing wear and tear damage in devices. It takes care of difficult and time-consuming maintenance, such as cleaning unused files that programs create for temporary use, updating software and drivers and tuning processes that drain the battery life from phones and laptops. The software also manages the potentially unwanted "bloatware" programs that come preinstalled on many newer mobile phones and other devices. These small inefficiencies waste things like memory and disk space, so getting rid of this waste gives users more storage space, longer lasting batteries and an overall better performing machine.
According to Samu Konttinen, F-Secure's executive vice president of consumer security, using F-Secure Booster improves security by minimizing risks caused by not maintaining devices. "An overwhelming majority of cyber attacks try to exploit vulnerabilities in old software because attackers know that keeping everything updated is too time consuming for most people. F-Secure Booster takes care of these things so that people don't have to worry, and works with our other security solutions to make getting the very best protection simple."
F-Secure Booster is currently available for Android devices and Windows PCs. F-Secure offers both free and premium versions of Booster, with the premium version offering the more advanced features, such as automatic software updating and other capabilities that keep devices running quickly and efficiently. The Windows PC version is available on F-Secure's website and the Android offering is available through Google Play.
