MixRank is used daily by their customers' inside sales teams as a critical step in their workflows to narrow down and qualify B2B prospects and find new customers. With CitusDB, MixRank makes tens of terabytes of time series data immediately available to these teams. Serving as both a transactional and an analytics database, the CitusDB platform has enabled MixRank to scale its solution across a 20-node cluster of commodity servers. • The MixRank platform was originally coded in PostgreSQL, a single-node database solution. CitusDB allowed MixRank to shard and scale out PostgreSQL across a cluster of commodity servers to manage big data. Because CitusDB did not need to pre-compute as many elements as standard PostgreSQL, customers began seeing real-time data, collected and inserted into the database minutes or even just seconds before their queries.
• MixRank reduced its hardware budget by 50 to 100 times compared to what would have been required without CitusDB. MixRank used CitusDB to scale out using low-cost, commodity servers and remain on a single database technology. This provided major cost savings by eliminating costs related to maintaining multiple hardware platforms and software licenses. MixRank was also able to hire PostgreSQL experts for their database rather than database generalists in order to manage multiple platforms.
• CitusDB is transparent to the application layer, so MixRank achieved the necessary scalability without a new development effort and was able to bring all the benefits of a relational database to its real-time big data efforts without any significant changes to its existing database applications. CitusDB extends rather than forks PostgreSQL, so MixRank was able to use its existing PostgreSQL tables, and a pilot program was very fast and easy to set up.
