PSCU Sees Major Improvements in Cybersecurity & Threat Detection

PSCU Relies on Seculert's Automated Breach Analytics Platform to Identify What Conventional Perimeter Solutions Have Missed -- With Zero False Positives

SANTA CLARA, CA -- (Marketwired) -- 06/02/15 -- Seculert, the leader in automated breach analytics, today published a new case study highlighting major improvements in cybersecurity and threat detection experienced by its customer PSCU, the nation's leading credit union service organization.

As the study describes, PSCU's Board of Directors recognized its best-of-breed perimeter security system -- comprised of a firewall, web proxy/gateway, endpoint, and SIEM -- was failing to provide visibility on malware infections that the organization's network was experiencing on an almost daily basis.

"The prevention solutions we had in place were regularly generating indicators of compromise, but they weren't telling us exactly which devices are infected and with what malware," commented Gene Fredriksen, PSCU's Chief Information Security Officer.

After evaluating several potential solutions, Fredriksen and his colleagues selected Seculert's automated infection detection platform to complement PSCU's prevention and search-based security products. After a short and rapid deployment cycle, Seculert went live in the PSCU environment.

Once live, Seculert identified 8 unique malware families present on more than 120 infected PSCU devices, generating nearly 8,000 malicious communications. Furthermore, of the 8 malware families discovered, 4 were deemed "Critical."

Also of significant value to PSCU was that the Seculert Platform only reported on 100% verified malware infection incidents, and automatically delivered actionable intelligence to SOC and IR teams to direct their swift and effective mitigation efforts.

When asked to reflect on PSCU's evaluation of Seculert to date, Fredriksen said, "Having run the Seculert Solution for one and a half years now, we have found it to perform as promised. While the number of incidents involved is relatively small, there's a big difference given our business model between having almost no malware on our network, and having some of these very sophisticated attacks spreading across our network."
