Securis Achieves R2 Certification

Not All IT Asset Destruction Providers Are Alike, and That's Why R2, NAID, and Other Certifications Held by Securis Set It Apart From Competitors

CHANTILLY, VA -- (Marketwired) -- 07/02/15 -- Securis has achieved R2 certification from Sustainable Electronics Recycling International, or SERI.

The certification shows how much Securis and its franchise owners are concerned about the environmental impact of IT data destruction, as well as the safety and security of the items being destroyed and recycled, said Dan Mattock, Director of Franchise Sales and Marketing.

"We want to make sure that all of our facilities and equipment are secure in terms of the IT assets we are charged with destroying, but at the same time we want to be as 'green' as possible in terms of our environmental impact," Mattock said. "Our customers are very happy when they realize that we can meet their IT data destruction needs, and that our employees and facilities have an excellent record in terms of safety and environmental impact."

The R2 process begins when a Securis truck pulls up at a franchise location. Whether hard drives are shredded on site or returned to the franchise location for shredding or transport to a Securis processing center, they are tagged in such a way that their contents -- plastics and metals -- are known. The same goes for items that will be refurbished and recycled.

A major benefit to the R2 certification is that it, along with the many other industry-leading policies and procedures Securis follows, does not cost the franchise owners anything to enact.

"They are basically picking up the equipment, shredding or storing it, and then doing a very minimal amount of processing," Mattock said. "They are palletizing it and then shipping everything to us, and so the main thrust of the refurbishing and recycling process takes place at the main hub. All the franchisees have to do after the shipping is just wait for the downstream revenue generated from equipment and materials sales to come back to them. We deal with all the challenges that come with the certification."
