SANTA CRUZ, CA -- (Marketwired) -- 07/09/15 -- Looker, the business intelligence (BI) platform that is powering data-driven companies, today announced that it is "all-in" with the Amazon Web Services (AWS) Cloud. Building on an established relationship with AWS, Looker now joins a community of AWS Partner Network (APN) partners as an APN Technology Partner dedicated to providing best-of-breed solutions for businesses that are moving their workloads to the AWS Cloud.
Looker is creating data-driven cultures at more than 350 industry-leading companies such as Yahoo!, Gilt, Warby Parker, Etsy, Avant, Carbonite, Birchbox, Autodesk, Sony and others. With Looker on AWS, data analysts can curate and centralize data to create a single source of truth for the company and offer an easy way for business teams to quickly ask and answer their own questions.
"Our customers tell us that Looker paired with a centralized data warehouse on AWS can immediately give businesses insights that they previously thought were impossible," said Frank Bien, CEO of Looker. "Looker is 'all-in' on AWS because with powerful MPP databases like Amazon Redshift, our customers are able to quickly deploy and scale a fully integrated cloud solution from data warehouse to data analytics."
Today, Looker is also announcing new innovations that accelerate performance for complex analysis utilizing the speed and advantages of Amazon Redshift. Looker is now one of the fastest ways to execute complex queries across joined tables in an MPP database due to the new capabilities in LookML. LookML is the modeling language within Looker that data teams use to create centralized definitions for their business teams -- metrics such as customer lifetime value, churn rate and daily active users -- essentially creating building blocks that anyone can use to investigate and analyze the critical functions of the company. With this new update, LookML makes it much faster to create and implement dynamic joins, saving analysts many hours of writing SQL queries and giving them more time for complex analysis.
"LookML is the single most innovative part of Looker," said Sandeep Kamath, senior manager of analytics at ShopRunner. "It makes BI fun and is absolutely painless compared to the BI tools I've used in the past."
Looker has seen a 350 percent increase in the number of Amazon Redshift deployments in its customer base over the past 12 months. Driving that growth is the synergy between Looker and AWS, which customers are discovering across a wide range of industries and settings:
"At Simply Business we need rapid analytics capability to support selling complex insurance products," said Stewart Duncan, director of data science at Simply Business. "Our new analytics solution, built on Looker and AWS, makes it simple for us to synthesize product, customer, Web and event data so that business decision makers get fast answers and can perform iterative analysis as needed."
"Looker gives us a completely new way to explore our data and collaborate on insights and solutions across our company," said Daniel Mintz, head of data and analytics at Upworthy. "By combining Looker with Amazon Redshift, we get the most from the AWS Cloud and our applications: virtually unlimited scalability, affordable cost and an intuitive end-user experience that makes it possible for all of our employees to dig into our data for insights."
"At Buffer we were drowning in data, but starving for answers," said Michael Erasmus, data engineer at Buffer. "Our analytics solution was a custom-built dashboard sitting atop our backend database. It was slow and really only accessible for developers. Our new data architecture includes Amazon Redshift and Looker. Analyzing four billion records in seconds, we can now drive true business insights for anyone in the organization who needs them."
Looker was one of the first companies to achieve the newly launched APN Marketing and Commerce Competency, as well as the first BI provider in that category. Previously, Looker was named to the APN Big Data Competency for Data Analysis & Visualization. The APN Competency Program connects AWS customers with qualified partners who have demonstrated technical proficiency and proven success in specialized solution and vertical areas.
"Businesses are moving to the cloud for a number of reasons," said Bien. "In addition to lowering costs and increasing performance, they are looking to enable company-wide data access and exploration. Looker is helping customers on AWS on all these counts. And we're only getting started."
"We're excited that Looker is expanding its commitment to serving customers by running its entire product portfolio on AWS," said Terry Wise, vice president of worldwide partner ecosystem, Amazon Web Services, Inc. "Together, Looker and AWS are accelerating business outcomes and improving simplicity for customers who are implementing and using analytics in the cloud."
On July 23rd, AWS is hosting a joint webinar with Looker. Yahoo! Mobile will share how Looker on Redshift is used to perform advanced user retention and chart analysis for real-time product and marketing decisions. Registration is available here.
