SAN FRANCISCO, CA -- (Marketwired) -- 08/26/15 -- Runscope, the leader for cloud-based API monitoring and testing, today announced that SendGrid, the leading email delivery platform for email that matters, has chosen Runscope to monitor and test the hundreds of services powering a new version of its API.
The Denver-based company sends more than 19 billion customer engagement emails each month, largely relying on hundreds of unique API endpoints.
As SendGrid's email delivery platform became more popular and the product added more complex features, the company looked to deploy a new version of its monolith API, endpoint by endpoint. With hundreds of customers relying on the API, managing change by testing new deployments and monitoring endpoints already in place was critical to maintaining customer satisfaction.
SendGrid began writing its own simple scripts and integration tests to verify the performance of its mission-critical API, but the process was resource-intensive and unreliable.
"Building tests manually wasn't scalable and was wasting time that could be spent on working with developers and building out our docs," said Brandon West, API Product Manager at SendGrid. "Mitigating the risk of having a broken API is extremely valuable to our business, and Runscope solves our pains around building and deploying dependable API endpoints and services."
SendGrid's Operations, QA, and Developer Evangelism teams rely on Runscope in each stage of the development process to create and run scheduled tests of the new SendGrid API, as well as monitor its legacy API. With Runscope, the team is able to go from idea to production in just a few weeks when creating new endpoints. Plus, SendGrid is the first to know when an endpoint breaks and can solve the issue before it reaches customers.
By including API performance monitoring as an essential step in the organization's workflow, the team is confident that older endpoints don't break, new endpoints are resilient, and customers are still succeeding with the email delivery service they depend on. "Considering the scope of our API and multi-step workflows, using Runscope has resulted in a huge time savings for us. Runscope opens our eyes to a broad range of API problems, including issues so small they would otherwise be undetected," said West.
SendGrid now monitors more than 180 methods and requests from multiple locations around the globe with Runscope. The team is confident that it can manage change and seamlessly deploy new endpoints without disrupting the customer experience core to SendGrid's mission.
"In the modern connected business, software updates and versioning are unavoidable, which makes relying on tools that facilitate change an essential addition to continuous deployment workflows," said John Sheehan, Co-founder and CEO of Runscope.
