The annual event in San Jose, Calif. starts today and runs through Thursday. It brings together data scientists, database administrators and architects as well as CIOs and business executives to exchange ideas, best practices and techniques for working with the NoSQL database solution category. Postgres has advanced to feature critical NoSQL capabilities, giving end users the choice to handle unstructured data with an ACID-compliant relational database. When the use case calls for a dedicated NoSQL-only solution, Postgres can still integrate with the data using a feature called a Foreign Data Wrapper.

EDB speakers will be addressing the features and capabilities in Postgres for working with unstructured data and the variables surrounding their deployment during two technical sessions:

• NoSQL on ACID -- Using Postgres for Unstructured Workloads at 8:30 am PT on Tuesday, Aug. 18, with Bruce Momjian, Sr. EDB Database Architect and Co-founder of the PostgreSQL community Global Development Group, and Vihbor Kumar, Principal System Engineer at EDB.

• PostgreSQL at the Center of Everyone's Data World at 1:30 on Wednesday, Aug. 19, with Bruce Momjian explaining Foreign Data Wrappers and how they are used to integrate data from NoSQL solution deployments into Postgres relational tables using the JSON data type.

Relational databases are continuing to advance to incorporate NoSQL capabilities. In its Magic Quadrant for Operational Database Management Systems, Gartner said, "By 2017, all leading operational DBMSs will offer multiple data models, relational and NoSQL, in a single platform." EDB was positioned in the Leaders Quadrants in that 2014 Magic Quadrant.
