MENLO PARK, CA -- (Marketwired) -- 01/15/15 -- Sighthound, Inc. today announced the release of Sighthound Sentry, a computer vision engine designed to add intelligence to third party systems, cameras and devices. In its initial implementation, Sighthound Sentry includes a new generation convolutional cascade classifier (C3) engine for person detection, although the engine has been designed from the ground up to support other computer vision capabilities in the future.

Sighthound Sentry is the result of two years of research and development by the Sighthound Labs Computer Vision Research Center. It is software which can be deployed by manufacturers on cameras, on Linux devices, in home automation control centers or on servers. It runs on ARM7 or later chips, or on Windows, Linux and Mac on Intel/AMD architecture. The product is targeted at camera manufacturers, home automation system providers and residential and commercial alarm system companies.

Sighthound Sentry monitors video feeds from cameras and returns information to the host system about the existence and on-screen coordinates of people and objects. The system can then trigger actions such as turning on lights, altering thermostat settings and sounding alarms. The software adds intelligence to systems that previously relied on motion detectors, which are easily triggered by pets or other environmental forms of movement, and which have no ability to detect stationary presence.

Sighthound Sentry is Sighthound's second product after Sighthound Video, a product which puts the power of computer vision into an intuitive, easy-to-use product for home and business security.
