SAN FRANCISCO, CA -- (Marketwired) -- 06/25/15 -- Cloud Foundry Foundation, home of the leading open source cloud native application platform, today announced Stormy Peters has been named vice president of technical evangelism. Peters will build and lead the Foundation's efforts to strengthen and grow a Cloud Foundry community that has organically grown to more than 2,100 developers worldwide who are contributing to the Foundation's projects.

"Developers are at the heart of the Cloud Foundry Project's current and future success," said Cloud Foundry Foundation CEO Sam Ramji. "Stormy will establish and oversee efforts to ensure we enable this community to participate fully in creating and deploying the cloud native ecosystem."

Over the course of her 20-year career, Peters has focused on educating companies and communities on open source software. She built and led Mozilla's 7,400+ Developer Network, served as executive director for the GNOME Foundation and led open source community efforts for OpenLogic and Hewlett-Packard. She is a founder and board member of Kids on Computers, and serves on the board of the Software Freedom Conservancy.

"I'm drawn to the mission and the people at the Cloud Foundry Foundation," Peters said. "Collaboration is key as we move from desktop apps to cloud apps. The Foundation understands the importance of a common, shared open source framework so that people and companies can focus on creating new applications, not in reinventing the ecosystem. We are putting the structure in place to foster long-term, community-powered success."

Peters is one of several high profile, strategic hires CEO Sam Ramji has made in his first 180 days to steer the future for the newly formed, independent Foundation. They include:

  • Vice President of Technology Chip Childers - A proven DevOps visionary and leader. Before coming to the Foundation, Chip was vice president of product strategy at CumuLogic. He spent more than 15 years in engineering leadership positions within the service provider industry including work with SunGard Availability Services and Qwest Solutions. He has served on the board of directors for the Distributed Management Task Force; and is a member of The Apache Software Foundation.

  • Vice President of Brand and Communications Mike Maney - A 24-year pro who has designed and led global communications programs for high profile, culture shifting initiatives inside IBM, AT&T and Alcatel-Lucent. He has played key roles on account teams at Ogilvy Worldwide, GCI and The Rowland Agency; and worked with Carvoyant, Cloudability, Mashery, ProgrammableWeb and other prominent technology infrastructure upstarts, helping them craft company-defining messaging and storylines.

  • Vice President of Ecosystems Scott Monson - A seasoned executive who has spent the last 20 years leading business development and product management across a mix of startup and Fortune 500 software companies. He served as area vice president of product management and business development at AT&T, where he and his team launched a virtualized network service on top of Cloud Foundry. He also led product management and business development programs for Alcatel-Lucent's Open API Platform and Service and served as vice president of worldwide business development and managing director of Europe at Orb Networks.

"We're experiencing a monumental shift in the way that the world does business," Ramji said. "Today every business is a software company and continuous innovation is becoming the only path for success. An open source platform for cloud native applications is no longer an option. Cloud Foundry is building the platform needed to empower never before imagined development speed and boundless portability for applications and content."
