SAN MATEO, CA -- (Marketwired) -- 04/21/15 -- Kii, the leading Internet of Things (IoT) cloud platform provider, today announced it has partnered with Haltian, a company based in Oulu, Finland specializing in the development and productization of wireless devices. The collaboration will allow Kii's developer community to leverage Haltian's IoT development platform called "Thingsee," which was successfully launched on Kickstarter, to create many state-of-the-art IoT devices and solutions aimed at consumers and businesses.
Development and production will begin immediately, with a projected global release of Fall 2015. The first devices will be targeting products in Kids Safety, Smart Wearable and Smart Home categories.
As part of the agreement, Kii and Haltian will combine their respective platforms into one package released to Kii's 15,000 independent developers and to the general market starting in June. Thingsee will work in conjunction with Kii Cloud, marrying APIs and SDKs, with a highly-scalable backend that simplifies the complexity of building out servers and infrastructure.
Haltian's Thingsee IoT device platform has over 12 different connectivity and sensor functions including GPS, 3D accelerometer, magnetometer, gyroscope, temperature, humidity, pressure and ambient light. Its wireless connectivity, with cellular, WLAN and future proof Bluetooth LE 4.1, provides outstanding characteristics, including the delivery of ultra-long battery life up to one year and waterproof IP67 protection. These combinations of features will provide the developer community an advanced, next-generation IoT development platform.
"Our collaboration with Haltian is focused on the overall user experience and end-to-end functionality ensuring these IoT solutions will be very attractive to customers," said Masanari Arai, CEO of Kii. "Haltian's product quality and technology innovation is so high since its core team members spun of Nokia. The combination of Haltian's device hardware and software design excellence and Kii's massively scaled backend will result in a best of class offering."
"We wanted to work with Kii because of their universal reputation as a global cloud services player and the fact they are the only company that has an established application developer community," said Hannu Uusitalo VP &GM of Haltian Silicon Valley. "Kii is also helping get distribution placement with many large global retailers, which is of great help as we launch our innovative device designs, in addition to the value of getting introduced into the Asian market."
