MENLO PARK, CA and SAN FRANCISCO, CA -- (Marketwired) -- 06/15/15 -- ClearStory Data, the company bringing business-oriented Data Intelligence to everyone, will be a featured innovator during an IBM-sponsored Apache Spark community event in San Francisco being held tonight during the opening day of Spark Summit 2015. The event, titled The Start of Something Big in Data and Design, will feature Dr. Timothy Howes, Chief Technology Officer of ClearStory Data, as one of the five-minute Lightning Talks speakers on the topic of Fast-cycle, Spark-based Analytics for the Business.
"IBM's increased investment and focus on Spark announced at Spark Summit this week is another clear validation of the urgency of a new way to process data at scale to allow enterprises to leverage all their data assets and reach new insightful answers fast," said Tim Howes, CTO of ClearStory Data. "The emergence of Spark for data processing is similar to the boost of speed from when we went from dial-up to broadband. It will radically help reshape data analysis -- which is why ClearStory built its next-generation analysis solution on Spark when it was still an initiative in the Berkeley AMPlab. With Spark built into ClearStory, we take businesses from the last generation of rear-view mirror insights to a real-time view on what's happening as it happens, so businesses can stay ahead, act fast and get to better data-driven answers."
For more on the potential of Spark-based data analysis in the enterprise, see today's blog post from CTO Dr. Timothy Howes.

ClearStory Data was one of the first to build its Data Intelligence platform and business application on Apache Spark to enable fast-cycle analysis, collaborative exploration and reduce wait time for business insights using Interactive, Collaborative StoryBoards.
The company will demonstrate an enhanced capability that adds third-party media content alongside real-time data analysis within its Spark-powered business-ready StoryBoards at its booth #K12 during the Spark Summit this week. The new capabilities include:
1) Out-of-the-box support for streaming media content
ClearStory now provides the ability to easily embed rich, streaming media from content providers into Interactive, Collaborative StoryBoard frames. This feature lets business analysts enrich their data-driven insights with additional media content in order to supplement their analytical storyline with critical contextual information.
2) First-class interactivity in embedded 3rd-party frames
External content embedded onto StoryBoard frames are treated as first-class components within ClearStory. As a result, the users' interactive experience, as well as all the built-in capabilities, are retained, just as if the external components were being accessed independently.
3) Built-in In-Context User Collaboration
Users can interactively collaborate on embedded external content, just like with ClearStory's StoryBoard analysis -- driving fast, consistent, real-time collaborative decision-making.
Apache Spark, originally birthed in University of California, Berkeley's AMPlab, has made it possible to blend and analyze large scale, disparate data sources quickly and iterate on data analysis faster so more business people can consume and act on data insights rapidly and apply deep intelligence into applications using more data sources including IoT, machine learning, web, mobile, social, business process and more.
What: Spark Summit 2015: Data Science and Engineering at Scale
