SAN FRANCISCO, CA -- (Marketwired) -- 04/20/15 -- Cylance, the first cybersecurity company to offer next-generation antivirus protection that leverages machine learning to identify previously unknown malware, blocked 99 percent of all threats in live demonstrations across the United States using real malware to test its new technology against old school AV software.

During a 20-city "Unbelievable Tour" roadshow, which began March 3, Cylance experts are exposing CylancePROTECT to cyberattacks using live malware downloaded from VirusTotal, then testing those same samples against products from McAfee, Symantec, Trend Micro and others. Attendees are also invited to submit samples to test in front of the live audiences through a "Bring Your Own Malware" (BYOM) program.

CylancePROTECT has identified and blocked 99 percent of some 2,200 samples during tour stops in 11 U.S. cities, including Boston, Cleveland, San Diego and Washington. McAfee blocked 52 percent of those samples, while Symantec stopped 53 percent and Trend Micro only got 30 percent.

Cylance released the results on Monday at the RSA Conference in San Francisco, where technicians will demonstrate the tests on Monday and Tuesday evening. Separately, Cylance announced on Monday the launch of AppControl functionality within its leading CylancePROTECT next-generation endpoint security. AppControl provides customers with extra protection for fixed-function devices such as cash registers, ATMs and industrial control systems. Administrators can set policies that only permit carefully scrutinized whitelisted applications to run. It also tests apps before they are incorporated into whitelists.
