REDWOOD CITY, CA -- (Marketwired) -- 07/29/15 -- Actian Corporation ("Actian"), the highest-performance enterprise-grade SQL (Structured Query Language) analytics platform company, today announced Kevin Edmiston has joined Actian as Senior Vice President of Worldwide Field Operations. Actian has experienced strong year-over-year growth across all its market segments, particularly with customers using the company's products to enable modern business intelligence (BI) and analytics workloads that cannot be addressed by traditional databases. A veteran Oracle leader, Edmiston brings more than 15 years of sales management experience and a track record for growing revenues in Actian's target markets. His addition to the team underscores the company's continued momentum and bolsters its leadership position in the industry.

As Group Vice President, Enterprise Software Sales and Cloud Solutions, Eastern U.S. at Oracle, Edmiston managed over $200 million in annual business and was responsible for year-over-year product growth in all categories at an average of 15 percent, expanded wallet-share within large enterprise accounts, and helped key customers transform their IT infrastructure. Edmiston will oversee Actian's sales function globally with the mandate to create new opportunities and grow existing business across the company's portfolio of products.

"Kevin brings proven expertise to drive record growth by expanding existing customer revenues and pushing innovative and disruptive products into the market," said Steve Shine, CEO of Actian. "Actian's unrivaled position to address growing demand for high performance, enterprise-grade SQL analytics is well complemented by Kevin's deep knowledge of the data management needs of the enterprise. His depth of experience in sales execution will help us deliver strong growth and increasing market share in the years ahead."

CIOs and their teams are under tremendous pressure to address the real-time demands of their business users while managing more and more data. This comes in the face of declining IT budget funding, as companies push to drive down costs without sacrificing performance. Simultaneously, business users face pressure from competitors using data-driven insights to create a fresh advantage for themselves in the market. This is exacerbated by traditional infrastructure that powers BI and analytics solutions because it cannot scale to meet the needs of modern workloads. In a recent Actian survey of C-level executives, data scientists and IT leaders, 77 percent of respondents said their big data and analytics deployments were failing to live up to expectations.

"I am excited to join Actian given its proven track record and multi-year technology lead that addresses the urgent customer need for insights from their growing data, delivered in a timely and accurate manner," said Edmiston. "With traditional systems breaking under new analytic workloads and Hadoop still too immature to meet rapidly growing requirements, enterprises face a conundrum which has driven them to compromise the value they get from their data. There is a tremendous market opportunity for Actian to bridge this critical price and performance gap with high performance, enterprise-grade SQL analytics that allows organizations to take advantage of their existing technology investments and skillsets."
