October 20, 2022 (Trenton, NJ)- Klatzkin & Company LLP ("Klatzkin") is notifying individuals of an event that may affect the security of some personal information. Klatzkin is providing information about the event, our response to it, and resources available to help protect personal information out of an abundance of caution.
On or about May 5, 2022, Klatzkin became aware of anomalous activity related to the filing of tax returns on behalf of certain Klatzkin clients. Klatzkin immediately launched an investigation, with the assistance of third-party cybersecurity specialists, to determine the nature and scope of the event. The investigation determined that beginning on or about March 1, 2022, an unauthorized actor gained access to certain Klatzkin systems and may have viewed or taken certain information contained in those systems. Therefore, Klatzkin conducted a thorough and in-depth review of the information within those systems to identify individuals with personal information that was potentially accessible. Klatzkin concluded this review on September 21, 2022.
It was determined that the involved Klatzkin systems may have contained the following types of information at the time of the incident: date of birth, health insurance information, medical information, Social Security number, driver's license number, financial account information, payment card information, employer- assigned identification number, username and password, passport number, and international tax identification number.
The confidentiality, privacy, and security of information in Klatzkin's care are among their highest priorities. Upon learning of the event, Klatzkin moved quickly to investigate and respond to the event, assess the security of our systems, and notify potentially affected individuals. Klatzkin is notifying potentially affected individuals so they may take further steps to best protect personal information, should they feel it is appropriate to do so. As an added precaution, Klatzkin is offering credit monitoring and identity theft protection services to impacted individuals.
Klatzkin encourages individuals to remain vigilant against incidents of identity theft and fraud, to review account statements, explanation of benefits, and to monitor credit reports for suspicious activity.
